More Art Works Coverage

Business North asks the tough questions in their article, “Art Works! Will it Work?”

From the story:

“Critics within the art community object to the notion they aren’t doing enough. Their evidence: Canal Park galleries already are a tourist draw. They argue such artist-inspired Duluth annual events as the Earth Day Gallery Hop, Empty Bowl fundraiser and Renegade Comedy Theater’s annual holiday show create local tradition and culture.”

And even sponsors wished more business folks had attended the group’s March conference:

Again, from the article: “The conference was mostly arts people.” [Duluth Art Institute Executive Director Samantha Gibb] Roff said. “There were some businesspeople, but not as many as we would have liked. It’s incumbent upon (artists) to make that case for ourselves. There has to be the understanding that (art/business collaboration) is beneficial for everyone. Those of us who are in the arts see it clearly. If business doesn’t see it immediately, we need to say ‘take another look at what we have here.’ I think Duluth is ripe for this,” she said.
