Another Pilot Creative Communities City

El Paso, Texas has been working with the Creative Class group for a bit longer than Duluth and Superior. They call their initiative New Texico to reflect their location on the border of Texas, New Mexico and Mexico.

Here is the Introduction from their Website:

What Is New Texico?

New Téxico is a new way of thinking about the Southwest—It’s about erasing the borders of Texas, New Mexico and Mexico to create something powerful and innovative.

Putting Creativity To Work

New Téxico is about harnessing the energy of a community that is ready to step up to the world stage. It’s about leaders coming together to make a difference and shine the spotlight on everything El Paso, Las Cruces and Cd. Juarez have to offer.

Showcasing The Southwest

On September 27 and 28, 2006, the Richard Florida Creativity Group met with 31 participants of the New Téxico Creative Cities Leadership Project (CCLP). These community leaders made a 12-month commitment to develop positive initiatives that will lead to the growth of the creative sector and the enhancement of the economic vitality of the region. From these initiatives participants were asked to choose six initiatives they wanted to focus on throughout the year. The teams then brainstormed on improvement plans in accordance with Richard Florida’s Three T’s – technology, talent and tolerance”
